The majority of the special parliamentary committee constituted for the appointment of the Chief Justice of Pakistan nominated Justice Yahya Afridi as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan.
According to the report of Careerfunda, the special parliamentary committee has sent the name of Yahya Afridi as the Chief Justice of Pakistan to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Talking to journalists after the meeting of the committee, Azam Nazir Tarar said that the committee has sent the name of Justice Yahya Afridi to the Prime Minister with a two-thirds majority.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that two-thirds of the nine members present in the committee gave a decision in favor of Justice Yahya Afridi after a “very good discussion”. He said that the three judges under consideration are respectable.
It should be noted that for the first time in the history of Pakistan, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has been elected by a parliamentary committee. Before that, in the light of the decision of the Al-Jihad Trust case, the most senior judge of the Supreme Court was the Chief Justice of the country.
Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa is retiring from his post on October 25. Before the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah was to become the next Chief Justice of Pakistan under the principle of seniority.
Prime Minister Nazir Tarar, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif and Rana Ansar participated in the meeting of the special parliamentary committee established for the nomination of the Chief Justice of Pakistan. Besides Raja Pervez Ashraf, Syed Naveed Qamar, Farooq H Naik, Senator Kamran Murtaza and Shaista Pervez Malik also participated in the parliamentary committee meeting.
A total of 9 out of 12 members of the Parliamentary Committee participated in the meeting, while none of the members of the PTI and Sunni Unity Council attended the committee meeting. In the meeting, Secretary Law presented the names and information of 3 senior judges before the committee where the names of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Yahya Afridi are among the senior judges.
The members of the committee reviewed the profile of the senior most judges one by one, but due to the non-participation of PTI and Sunni Ittehad Council members in the meeting, the meeting was adjourned till 8 pm tonight.
The meeting was adjourned to convince the PTI and Sunni Ittehad Council to participate.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Kamran Murtaza, who had come for the meeting earlier, was asked by the journalist whether he had received the names of the judges, to which he replied that no, we have not received the names yet.
